Smoothies are my absolute favourite when desiring something satisfying, creamy, thick in texture, nutritious and quenching. Smoothies are a fantastic way of ensuring one incorporates all different types of food groups into one’s daily diet to meet the specified dietary requirements.
I adore all types of smoothies! However, plant based are conducive to my digestive system and overall health. Discovering what is congruent for tie digestive health is crucial to maintaining a happy lifestyle. The great component about smoothies, is that they can be adapted to suit your preference of ingredients and or thickness.
I have been regularly consuming this creamy banana smoothie recently due to the richness in flavour of the Banana, silkiness of the Almond Milk, sweetness of the Dates and the conflation of nuttiness and sweetness, respectively, from the Maca Powder and Cinnamon.
Each of these ingredients are nutritional gifts to benefit one’s health:
Banana – are a versatile and health boosting fruit, adding a sweetness and density to most dishes. These yellow delights contain a plethora of minerals, vitamins and compounds. Bananas are a dense source of dietary fibre and are considered as a prebiotic food (which promote and feed the “good” bacteria in the stomach. The more “good” bacteria in the stomach, the healthier the stomach will be), for those of you who struggle with ill digestive health. Add a Banana to your breakfast, on top of toast with Peanut Butter (or alternative food accompaniment), add to a smoothie or incorporate into baking. However you enjoy it, savour the sweetness and flavour.
Almond Milk – an alternative to cows milk, this plant based milk is gentler on the digestive system. Almond Milk is a source of vitamins (especially vitamin D and E), protein and calcium. Although it is not as nutritious as cows milk, it is a great alternative for a lactose free diet.
Dates – these chewy, rich and sweet fruits are delicious when eaten naturally or when added to smoothies and baking to enhance the flavours, acting as a natural sweetener. These morsels are nutritionally dense in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre.
Maca Powder – this adaptogenic root, which resembles a malty and nutty flavour, is originally a member of the cruciferous vegetable family, grown in and sourced from Peru. Maca Powder is rich in minerals and nutrients, ultimately consumed for hormonal balance, improvement in mood (helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression), as an aphrodisiac, enhancement of energy, stamina and performance whilst assisting in the improvement of mental clarity. Add Maca Powder into your smoothies, cereals, oats or baking. You will never cease to use it!
Cinnamon – personally, the aromatic smell, health benefits and versatility in sweet or savoury dishes and gorgeous flavour, superfluously, designates Cinnamon as my favourite spice. It is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties which ensures your body is protected against those pestering free radicals, to allow the body to combat possible infection and disease respectively.
What will you create? Immerse yourself in the kitchen and delight in the process. Therapy evolves individually in all differing forms. Embrace your passion of creating to savour every moment dedicated to appreciating the flavours.
